Fred Couples – the O.G. of Golf Cool

Ashworth is thrilled to have Fred Couples back. Couples, who joined Ashworth when the company started in 1987, appeared in many of their iconic ads. One ad featured Couples blasting a tee shot while standing on train tracks and aiming at the Dallas skyline off in the distance. Another popular ad featured Couples riding in the backseat of a Cutlass convertible with fellow Ashworth ambassadors John Cook, Ernie Els and Jim Nantz, the CBS announcer (and Couples' teammate from the University of Houston). Posters of some of those ads, all shot by photographer Barry Grimes, have sold for for hundreds of dollars on the internet.

Ashworth recently photographed Couples for a new series of ad that will appear this spring. Shot in California, the alluring images include shots of Couples shooting hoops, behind the wheel of a red convertible and just relaxing.

In every image, Couples flashes his trademark smile while looking as calm and cool as he's always been. “Fred is the coolest, most casual and clearly one of the most gifted players the game has ever known,” said Nantz at Couples' 2013 Hall of Fame induction. “The cool thing is he never tried to be cool."
